Google Business Profile: Opting Out of Automated Messages

Last updated: May 21, 2026

If your phone number is listed on your Google Business Profile and it routes calls to Slang, there are a few settings you'll want to turn off. Check the Go Live Checklist for setup details if you haven't already.

The issue: Google occasionally sends automated calls, texts, or WhatsApp messages to the phone number on your Google Business Profile to confirm your business details — things like operating hours, inventory status, or booking availability. If that number routes to Slang, the AI concierge will answer. The response may not align with what Google's automated system expects, which can result in inaccurate updates being posted to your Business Profile or trigger a review.

The fix: Opt out of Google's automated calls and messages through your Business Profile settings, and reply STOP to any text or WhatsApp messages you've already received.

Opting out of automated calls

Note: Your Business Profile must be verified before you can access this setting. If you haven't verified your business yet, learn how here.

  1. Go to your Google Business Profile and sign in

  2. Select your location

  3. Select MoreBusiness Profile settingsAdvanced settings

  4. Under Google automated calls and text messages, turn off both options:

    • Keep your profile up to date

    • Post to your profile on your behalf

You can re-enable either of these at any time from the same settings page.

Opting out of automated texts or WhatsApp messages

If you've already received a text or WhatsApp message from Google, reply STOP to opt out of future messages from that thread.

Who this applies to

All Slang customers. If your Google Business Profile number routes calls to Slang, it will receive Google's automated calls and messages — and Slang will answer them.

Note: These settings only affect Google's automated outreach to your business. They have no impact on how Slang handles incoming calls from your guests.
